Writing a CV can be a daunting task. It is a task that most people would like to skip (like most other aspects of job application, don’t we all just want a new job without the hassle of going through the whole job application process?). Unfortunately skipping your cv writing is not something you can afford when you are looking for a new job. The curriculum vitae is now more important for your job application than ever. Most recruiters and hiring manager make a first selection of the candidates based on just a quick scan of the CV’s. Your CV is often the first impression you make and it is crucial to make a solid first impression to survive the first selection.
A Curriculum Vitae is a brief overview of your professional life. It contains your education, your experience, contact information, personal profile and skills. When you are writing your CV it is important to keep your information short and keep it relevant for the job application. Don’t write long stories, use short sentences and use bullet point where possible. Recruiters want to be able to make a quick and efficient scan of your CV. Don’t write a CV longer than one or two pages. In some exceptional cases it is possible to write a longer CV, for example when you’re a project manager or a (ICT) consultant or an scientific researcher that has made lots of publications. However for most people it is wise to keep your CV writing within the two pages.
